High School Standouts: March 29-April 3 (Boys)

#1 ACE Charter 4, #3 GMC 3

Top ranked ACE Charter defeated No. 3 ranked GMC 4-3.  ACE Charter was led by UAB signee, Tanner Moreau with 3 goals and Bradford Cork with 1 goal. Ethan Tolentino, 2 goals and Edin Kaninjing, 1 goal, rounded out the scoring for GMC.

 

North Gwinnett 3, Peachtree Ridge 1 (OT)

North Gwinnett kept its 8-AAAAAAA championship hopes alive with a 3-1 overtime win over Peachtree Ridge on Tuesday.  Cody Leach and Adam Burkey had goals for the Bulldogs, who also picked up an own goal.  Juan Gallego-Garson had Peachtree Ridge’s goal off an assist from Kaleb Thomas.

 

Norcross 2, Archer 0

Alex Chimbanda scored twice Tuesday in Norcross’ 2-0 win over Archer in 7-AAAAAAA. Goalkeeper Fredy Sanchez earned the shutout with the help of stellar defense from Rodrigo Ramirez, Josh Trevilla and Fernando Nino.

 

Berkmar 2, Discovery 0

Berkmar posted a big 7-AAAAAAA win Tuesday, defeating Discovery 2-0.  The Patriots, 6-4 in the region, got a penalty kick goal from Daniel Hernandez and a goal from Carlos Rodas.

 

South Gwinnett 4, Grayson 0

Sekou Agard and Kadeem Agard scored two goals each in South Gwinnett’s 4-0 win over Grayson in 4-AAAAAAA play Tuesday.  Erik Cavillo posted the shutout at goalkeeper behind a defense led by Jacob Rolon and Jorge Evan-Remigio.

 

Lanier 5, Buford 0

Lanier rolled to a 5-0 win over Buford on Tuesday. The Wolves fall to 7-7 overall and 5-7 in the region.

 

#9 Wesleyan 2, Holy Innocents’ 0

Ninth-ranked Wesleyan shut out Holy Innocents’ 2-0 on Tuesday.

 

Mount Vernon 4, Providence 0

Providence Christian dropped a 4-0 match at Mount Vernon on Tuesday.  Mount Vernon improves to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the region, while Providence falls to 7-7 and 2-2.

 

Collins Hill 1, North Gwinnett 0

North Gwinnett fell to Collins Hill on penalty kicks 1-0 Thursday night, but still clinched the Region 8-AAAAAAA boys soccer championship, its first region title since 2007. The Bulldogs (7-7-1) and Collins Hill (9-6) both finished Region play with a 5-3 record, but North took the region title and the No. 1 seed for the state playoffs on a tiebreaker.

 

#8 Discovery 3, #6 Brookwood 1 (OT)

Eighth-ranked Discovery defeated No. 6 Brookwood 3-1 in overtime on Thursday. The Titans improve to 11-5 on the season, while Brookwood falls to 10-5.

 

Berkmar 2, Dunwoody 0

Berkmar clinched a state playoff berth Thursday with a 2-0 victory over Dunwoody.  The Patriots, 7-4 in 7-AAAAAAA, got a goal from Tommy Redd and an own goal from Dunwoody. Jose Fernandez posted the shutout at goalkeeper.

 

Parkview 2, #6 Brookwood 0

Unranked Parkview moved into second place in Region 4-AAAAAAA with a 2-0 victory over sixth-ranked Brookwood in boys soccer on Monday.  Parkview improves to 8-4-1 overall and 4-2 in the region, while Brookwood falls to 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the region. The Panthers scored both goals in the second half, the first from Diego Pereira off an assist from Sam Schaff. John Charlton scored the second goal with an assist from Ryan Laraki.

 

Parkview 2, Grayson 1

Parkview clinched the No. 2 seed from 4-AAAAAAA for the state playoffs with a 2-1 win over Grayson on Thursday.  Both goals for the Panthers (9-4-1, 5-2) came from John Charlton with the assists from Juan Escobar and Ryan Laraki.

 

Mill Creek 2, Mountain View 0

Mill Creek defeated Mountain View 2-0 in an 8-AAAAAAA match Thursday.

 

Pace Academy 2, Peachtree Ridge 1

Peachtree Ridge fell 2-1 to Pace Academy on Thursday. Dominik Kosut had the Lions’ goal.

 

#10 Providence 3, Cedar Shoals 0

No. 10 Providence Christian got a shutout from goalkeeper Ben Stone in a 3-0 win at Cedar Shoals on Thursday.  August Larson and Aaron Lee scored first-half goals, and Noah Williamson tacked on the Storm’s third goal in the second half. Providence improves to 8-7 on the season.

 

#9 Wesleyan 4, St. Francis 0

Ninth-ranked Wesleyan blanked St. Francis 4-0 on Thursday.
